Rainbow cake, Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS hair and others..

Hello again!

I made a rainbow cake today, following SuperBeautyNerd's tutorial.
Here's how it turned out:

The colours looked cool, but it was a bit rich for my taste.

Here's a style from quite a long time ago, inspired by Clara Oswin-Oswald's hair in Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS:

One that's slightly more recent. I braided the very ends of my hair and flipped them under, pinning them at the base of my head. Love the look, but it doesn't stay neat for very long unfortunately.

Until next time!

Edwardian updo

University is finally over for the trimester! Just had my exam today.
So glad to be done and to be able to have a small break.

I was playing around with my hair this evening, trying to recreate Oakoscar100's Edwardian hairstyle here. This is what resulted - I couldn't quite 'fold' the hair as there was too much of it! Ended up mostly rolling it and then rolling the front into one big pomp/curl.

I really like how it turned out. But the large number of bobby pins is giving me a headache! Definitely a special occasion style.

'til next time!

Old Fever Hospital visit..

Howdy!

In the weekend I went on a tour of the old Fever Hospital in Mount Victoria, Wellington.
It's a beautiful old building, packed full of history (and it's still got the call buttons!)
Construction first began in 1918, to be completed in 1919. The first patients were brought in in 1920.
It was used for a range of things over the years, but during the hospital period was a place to treat illnesses like TB, scarlet fever and the like.

The original building was shaped like a V and during the 70s an addition was made in the middle. The nurses' home is a separate building, connected by a covered corridor which had a partitioning wall down the middle. When the nurses began their shift they would walk down one side, separated from those who were finishing their shift and making their way back to the home.

There are quite a few ghost stories associated with the hospital. One of such is Sister Slipper, who apparently used to walk around the wards with slippers on and hot water bottles over top of them. During the 1990s the building was used as a music school and there were reports of a shuffling sound at night--similar to the sound of someone walking around in slippers.

The SPCA hosted the tours as the old Fever Hospital will become their new premises. It was hard not to get excited about the plans as they were telling us about them on the tour!

Anyway, enough rambling. Have some pictures!

See ya next time!

Buns and henna!

Apologies for the lack of posts.
University has been ruling my life and taking up all of my time!

Here's a braided bun I wore the other day:

I found a new henna supplier. The henna is just gorgeous quality.
I have some in my hair right now, looking forward to seeing the result!
I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

Until next time!

Tardis skirt and a Paranda

Hey all!

I finished my Tardis skirt. I'm SO pleased with the results.
I've worn it almost everyday since I finished it.

Here's my outfit for today - I'll essay writing at uni (THANK GOD I'M ALMOST FINISHED! Essays are lame. But necessary. *sigh*).
Please excuse my mirror! It's in need of a clean.

Hairstyle is a French braided paranda with two English/accent braids from the front.

Anyway, better go and get back to writing my essay.

Until next time! x

Happy Easter!

It's Easter time - hooray!
That means a long weekend, which is my favourite kind of weekend.

Today I want to share with you an outfit, a hairstyle (kind of?) and an outfit in the making.
I've been feeling creative this weekend.. Or rather, I have an assignment due and therefore my procrastinator's brain thinks that this is the best possible time to give me ideas that MUST BE DONE NOW!
I am, after all, the queen of procrastination. I did however manage to trick myself into a bit of study today, thankfully.

Anyway! Enough with the blabbering and on with the pictures.

This was my outfit for today (Sunday). We went out to lunch with my family because it was my lovely mum's birthday (and, ya know, Easter).

Hair for today. I curled my hair with cloths (the cleaning kind) that I bought specifically for curling.
And here's the procrastination project! I cut out a half circle skirt and screen printed Tardis' all over it. So excited about it! Just waiting for the paint to dry and then I'll seal it with an iron, before sewing the skirt together.
There will be pics when it's finished!

Anywho,
better get onto my essay. Maybe.

Ka kite ano!
